James Addison Taylor: on 8 September he employed George Laurence to dig some potatoes in Buxton Wood Field. He later went with a barrow to the field to fetch the potatoes home. As he was going towards the field he saw Laurence and Toyer . Laurence was holding bag up and Toyer filling it with potatoes. When Toyer saw him he went over the hedge and ran way with the bag. Taylor ran after him and caught up with him. Toyer threw down the bag. The bag contained potatoes and turnips. There had been turnips in the same field. Toyer said Laurence had told him he may have as many as he liked. On returning to Laurence, Laurence said he had sold the potatoes to Toyer for 4 pence. He had not been authorised to do so.
