  • Scope and Content
For some years past he has employed Robert Pattle as his foreman or principal servant in conducting his business as miller. He had reason to believe that during July and August Pattle had received money from some of his customers without accounting for it, in particular a sum of £4 from James Wilson of Shitlington on 30 July, £2 10s from Hide of Stotfold on the same day, and 18s from Ann wife of George Odell of Campton on 16 August. That day he charged Pattle with having received these sums, which he admitted having done. He said he had accounted for them in the account books. On referring to the account books Pattle could find no entry of these sums being received. Pattle should enter each article in the day book on delivery of the goods if not paid for in ready money. There did not appear to have been any entry made for the goods sold to James Wilson or George Odell. The goods sold to Hide were entered in the day book and are ticked off in the margis as if the same had been posted. Pattle admitted he had ticked off this entry. Pattle has not accounted to him in any way for the three sums received from Wilson, Hide and Odell.
