When he was about 14 years of age he was placed out apprentice with the consent of his father William Culling to James Dorman and Mark Dorman of Ashford, County of Kent, curriers by Indenture (now produced) dated 15 April 1817 for seven years. He served the whole of his apprenticeship with his Masters in Ashford and has not done any act since to gain a settlement in his own right to the best of his knowledge. He was married 1 September instant at St Paul to Sarah Coombs.
