  • Scope and Content
I am about 30 years of age, was born in St Paul where my father William Fisher a labourer then resided and belonged. On the seventh day of October 1817 I was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of the Harpur Charity by Indenture for seven years to James Smith of Ampthill, shoemaker. I served him there until the 29th November 1823 when having obtained the age of 21 years I procured the register of my birth. I communicated the same to my Master James Smith and left him in consequence. I then worked as a journeyman shoemaker with Mr Goodge of Ampthill for some time. I then came to Bedford and have continued working as a journeyman shoemaker in Bedford ever since on and off with out doing any act to the best of my belief to gain a settlement. I was married at St Pauls, Bedford on 4 November 1827 to my now wife Susannah Lincoln by whom I have two children namely Sarah aged 4 years and a half and Charles aged 14 months.
