  • Scope and Content
I am about 23 years of age, was born in Elstow where my father Lewis Ansell then resided and belonged. I continued in Elstow until Michaelmas 1825 when I let myself to Mr William Smith of St Paul, Bedford, gentleman as a general servant. I continued with him until Michaelmas 1828. On 24th December 1828 I let myself as a general servant to Reverend John Prettyman of Sherrington, Bucks for fifty one weeks at the wages of ten pounds. I went into such service on the 24th December and continued in it the one and fifty weeks when my Master said he would hire me again for a year at the advanced wages of thirteen pounds subject to a months warning or a months wages to which I agreed and continued with him until the 10th or 11th March 1830 when having given him a months warning and received my full wages to that time I left his service. I never was absent or quitted such service not even for a day the whole time. I have not done any other act to gain a settlement. I was married 31 May 1830 at Elstow to Sarah by whom I have two children Charles aged about two and Elizabeth aged two months.
