- Scope and ContentJames Alcock: an under gardener to Mr Colquhoun of Elstow. On the evening of 17 July, he put a waistcoat and a jacket into Mr Colquhoun's Laundry. The laundry is not part of the house but linked by brickwork. After leaving this clothing, Aldock locked the laundry door and put the key in the private place in the yard. The following morning he unlocked the laundry door and found his articles missing. He also missed 2 razors and a velveteen coat which he kept in the laundry. He noticed the laundry window open and some dirt on the sill. The prisoner had come to the premises begging the previous afternoon. He identified the waistcoat and jacket produced as his own and believed the table cloth, night cap and blanket produced to be the property of Mr Colquhoun. Henry Ison Jebbett: the Superintendent of the Rural Police, living at Bedford. Receiving information regarding the robbery he went to Luton and apprehended the prisoner with the 2 table cloths, a night cap. a blanket, a frock coat and a jacket. The items were in the prisoners bundle when he was taken into custody. William Coombs: Chief Constable of Bedford, living in Silver Street, Bedford. He accompanied Jebbett to Luton and searched the prisoner. On his person he found a waistcoat, 2 razors, a razor case and a handkerchief.
