- Scope and ContentThomas Tomkins, constable of Clifton - the previous night he was asked to search Johnson for a handkerchief lost by James Wagstaff. On his person he found a handkerchief and 6 silver teaspoons. He apprehended Johnson. He searched Johnson at Frederick Kinsmith's who keeps a beer shop in Clifton. Elizabeth Taylor of Clifton, widow of George Taylor - she keeps a house for the reception of lodgers. On Thursday before Whit Sunday Johnson came to her house and aksed for lodgings. He slept in her house for 2 nights and left on Sunday morning. She knows the spoons to be hers by the initials of the name of her late husband and her own. She did not discover the spoons were missing until 4 or 5 days after Johnson left as they were not in general use. They were kept in a box by her bedside. Her room is a thoroughfare room to that in which her son William and the prisoner slept. John Johnson - he bought the spoons from a man in Clifton whom he does not know for 5s.
