Statement of the accused - John Barley

John Barley: on returning from Chatteris he stopped at Mr Ashbourne’s on the ford. 3 of 4 boys came to him and said they had found a bottle with some beer in it and they had drunk the beer and thrown the bottle over into a field. He went with them and one of the boys went before him and picked up the bottle, and drunk some of the beer in it. Barley then took the bottle away with him.
