  • Scope and Content
I amabout 48 years old. About the year 1799 at Michaelmas I let myself to Mr John Emery of Kempston, farmer as a servant in husbandry for one year from that time, but I forget at what wages. I served during the whole of that year and the 2 following years when I came to Bedford where I have lived ever since but have never done any act whereby I could gain a settlement. About 12 years ago I was in want of relief and I was examined as to my settlement when it appeared I belonged to Kempston, but no orders of removal were made because the parish officers of Kempston agreed to receive me without orders. I have frequently received relief from the Overseers of kempston since that time. I was married in November 1808 to my present wife Ann at St John, by whom I have four children - John aged 22, Sarah about 20, Betsy about 17 and James about 12. My daughter Sarah is now with child and chargeable to the parish of St John.
