  • Scope and Content
Samuel Lamb, constable of Borough of Bedford - the previous Saturday he was called to the Red Lion Public House to remove John Fuller who was drunk. He removed him. Fuller resisted and tried to throw him down. They both fell together in the struggle. He did not use more force than was necessary to put him out and prevent him striking Miss Allison the landlady which he attempted to do several times. Knowing Fuller he coaxed him and let him hang on his arm until they got opposite the Crescent. Fuller tried to strike him and he had great trouble preventing him. He left Fuller supposing he would go straight home as he promised. About 10 to 15 minutes later he went into the Ship Public House which was on Fuller's way home. Fuller was there and bothering the landlord Mr Bazely to draw him beer which he refused to do. Fuller struck at Mr Bazely several times. He told Fuller to go home. Fuller came at him and struck and kicked him several times. He was very lame from it. He charged Peter Peck to assist him in apprehending Fuller. In the scuffle all the candles were knocked out and Peck and Fuller got out of the house. When Mr Bazely got a light he found Fuller had Peck down on the ground and said he would kill him. Fuller was kicking and striking Peck most violently. With more assistance he got Peck away and apprehended Fuller. He has had him in custody several times before. Peter Peck of Biddenham, labourer - Samuel Lamb's evidence is true. He was very much hurt by Fuller. The wounds on his head and face were made by Fuller's kicking. John Bazely of Conduit Street, St Paul, Bedford, victualler - confirms evidence of the two previous witnesses.
