- Scope and ContentJames Milner Layman: a surgeon practicing in Shefford. He had known Thomas Ibbott from infancy and he was a healthy man. On the day after Christmas he attended him, finding him in bed, from injuries received to the abdomen. These were marks of great violence. He considered great internal injury had been intended. Ibbott was unable to pass water, and on further investigation found him ruptured and needing to wear a truss for life. Blood had been passed from the bowels ever since. In his opinion Ibbott is permanently disabled from following his usual occupation.
