    Thomas Ibbott: on 25 December 1850 about half past 6 he was going along Turnpike Road in Henlow. he was close to the Bird in Hand public house when he met all the men accused - Isaac West, James Goodwyn, James Brown, William Gregory, Abraham Albone, Offspring Jeeves, Job, Dear and Joseph Houghton. They had 2 or 3 dogs which they tried to set on him, and whilst he tried to keep them off Houghton knocked him down. They fell on him and cried "kill the bugger". 5 or 6 of them where on him and hurt him so badly that he had not been able to work since. He was confined to bed for 10 days. His body had been drawn and a great deal of blood came 4 or 5 times. He had been in great pain since but has improved. Thomas Hillyard: was at the Bird in Hand on Christmas night. Joseph Houghton was there as well as many people he did not know. There were a small dog and a large dog present. The group were intoxicated when they left. A few minutes later he heard someone calling 'Lenton, Lenton' but where he opened they door there was nobody there. A few minutes later Thomas Ibbott came in about he looked like he’d been mauled a great deal. Issac West: met Ibbott near the Bird in Hand and he had Abraham Albone and William Gregory either side of him. There were five men behind. Joseph Houghton had a bid dog with him and Job dear a smaller one. James Goodwyn: saw Houghton hit Ibbott on the back of his smock and Ibbott stumbled but he did not see him fall. James Brown: saw Joe Houghton hit Ibbott in the neck. William Gregory: said he was in front with Albone. Abraham Albone: said the same as Gregory. Offspring Jeeves: left Houghton talking to Ibbott. Job Dear: said he was close to Albone.
