- Scope and ContentJames Hopwood of Luton, butcher - he holds stables at Donkey Hall. Last Saturday evening 31 October he had been to rack his horse up. Coming down Park Street he saw Thomas Carter with a sack on his back. he suspected there was something wrong and took it from him. He took it into Samuel Taylor's house. They opened the sack and found it contained barley. Samuel Taylor - on Saturday morning he found the staple of the barn drawn. He told John White - John White and Thomas Carter had been working for him. White looked in the barn and said it was all right. He went into the barn and saw it was not right. The barley laid all along the floor. It had been partly dressed and thrown back, and some straw thrown over it. When he came back from Dunstable on Saturday evening he missed some of the barley. James Hopwood brought a sack with some barley in it. John White brought the key of the barn to his wife and said all was right. She found the window open. The barley appeared to correspond with the barley in the barn. Thomas Carter - he saw the sack stand there and took it up. He threw it on his shoulder and should have taken it home.
