- Scope and ContentJoseph Pochin is about 15 years of age. I was married to his mother Sarah Pochin then the widow o Joseph Pochin formerly of Market Harborough, tallow chandler at St Sepulchre, Northamnpton in April 1823. I have often heard my wife declare that her son Joseph was born at Market Harborough in the County of Leicester and that her late husband Joseph Pochin's settlement was there and he obtained that settlement by servitude. She received a weekly sum of three shillings from a charitable institutiion at Market Harborough as having been a widow of a poor person belonging to that place. She died in June 1829. I took the boy Joseph last January to Market Harborough as his place of settlement and applied to Mr Beesley one of the Overseers of the poor of that parish. He knew the boy and his friends but declined taking him in or giving him relief without order of removal.
