- Scope and ContentI was born in St Marylebone in the County of Middlesex but my father William Wales belonged to St George Hanover Square in the same County. He obtained his settlement there by service. About 1820 I let myself to Mr Thomas Watkins of Cork Street, Burlington Gardens, St James, Middlesex, tailor by the year as a general servant at the wages of nine pounds per annum, I continued in such service about six years when I was on the 21st September 1826 married at St James to my late husband Richard Meredith, painter & glazier who then resided in Bond Street. He was 24 years of age when we were married and I have heard my husband many times declare that the place of his settlement was in St George hanover Square by serving seven years under an Indenture of apprenticeship to his Uncle - Bailey who lived in a street opposite the lower end of Grosvenor Place. My husband never did any other act to gain a settlement to the best of my knowledge. My husband died in Bedford on the 17th instant. i have three children by my said husband namely Joseph aged 4 next May, William aged two years and Louisa aged 6 months.
