  • Scope and Content
I am about 29 years of age, was born in St Paul where my father then resided and belonged. When I was about 14 years of age I was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of the Harpur Charity by Indenture for seven years to my father Matthias Ossington Stratton of St Paul, cabinet maker. I served about three years when he and my mother taking me with them left Bedford and went to Cambridge for about 9 months, my father going about the country buying and selling of books. He died at Bethnal Green about the year 1820 and my mother ofn quitting cambridge went and settled at Lynn in Norfolk. I served the remainder of my apprenticeship there with her and receievd the customary premium of ten pounds from the Trustees for so doing. I have not done any other act to the best of my knowledge to gain a settlement. I was married on the fourth instant at St Peter to Mary Course.
