- Scope and ContentI am about 24 years old, born in Renhold where my father John Freeman and Elizabeth his wife then resided and belonged, he having lived at service in that parish. I October 1826 I let myself to Mary Corfield wife of John Corfield of 10 Mount Street, Grosvenor Square, in the parish of St George Hanover Square, County of Middlesex, cabinet maker to serve her from the 24th October in that year for nine pounds a year at a moths wages and a months warning. Her house was a lodging house. I continued in her service on those terms more than a twelvemonth - I think fourteen months. The Gentlemen lodging in the house gave me one pound five shillings and my mistress gave me seven pounds 15 shillings to make up the nine pounds wages agreed upon. To the best of my knowledge and belief I have gained no subsequent settlement. I am now with child, likely to be born a bastard and chargeable to the parish of St John.
