- Scope and ContentWilliam Evans of Warden, victualler - he keeps the Hare and Hounds public house at Warden. On Saturday 28 November he went into his hay loft to look for a blanket but it was missing. He did not see it again until that morning, when it was in the possession of James Whitteridge the constable. Richard Vintinner of Warden, labourer - on Saturday 21 November he was in the Hare and Hounds and James Laing was there. He said he had a blanket his mother had given him and that he would sell it to him for a shilling and a quart of beer. Laing went out of the tap room with him into the yard and into one of the outbuildings where he said he had slept and brought the blanket. He paid Laing for it. On 10 December Whitteridge came and enquired about it and he gave him the blanket. It was in a very dirty state when he bought it and his wife washed it three times. James Burrage of Warden - he was groom to Lord Ongley at the same time that Laing worked in his garden. On Thursday 3 December he happened to see him in London. Laing told him he had sold a blanket he got from Evans's to Vintinner for a shilling. Laing said it was Evans's blanket. James Whitteridge of Warden - the blanket produced is the one he got from Vintinner. James Laing - said he never stole the blanket.
