- Scope and ContentI am about 34 years of age, was born at Wilshamstead where my father Richard Gery then resided. About 13 years ago I was married at Cardington to my late husband Thomas Haynes by whom I have 5 children namely Mary aged thirteen, Elizabeth eleven, Sarah nine, Ann seven and Caroline six years. I have often heard my last husband say and I believe to be true that he belonged to Cople and that he gained his settlement by living as a hired servant with one of the gentlemen of that parish. I am not quite sure the name, I think it was Brimley. To the best of my belief he never afterwards did any act to gain a settlement elsewhere. I have not done any act to gain a settlement in my own right subsequent to my husband's death, nor have my children. i have received relief from the Overseers of Cople weekly from the time of my husbands death to the present time. I am now with child, likely to be born a bastard and Francis Colegrave of St Cuthbert, bedford, labourer, is the father.
