- Scope and ContentI am about 21 years of age. I was born at St Mary, Bedford where my father Thomas Smith then resided and belonged. When I was about fourteen years old I was bound apprentice to William Mantle of Biggleswade, tailor, by Indentures (now produced) bearing the date 19th May 1823 for the term of seven years to learn his trade. I served my Master from the date of my Indentures for six years in the same town and resided there during all that time. I then left my Master in April 1829 in consequence of a misunderstanding and he then gave me up my Indenture. I have been working in the parish of St Mary ever since as a journeyman with Mr William Larkins but I have not gained any settlement subsequent to that gained at Biggleswade. I was married on 28th April instant at St Mary to Elizabeth Simons.
