- Scope and ContentI am about 45 years of age, was born in the parish of St Paul, Bedford where my father Daniel Swales then resided and belonged. When I was about 14 years of age I was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of the Harpur Charity to Robert Boskett of All Saints, Cambridge for seven years by Indenture (now produced). I served about six years with my saidn Master and then I left him with his consent and entered into the army of reserve and shortly after joined the 30th Regiment of Foot, in which regiment I continued about 16 years. On leaving that regiment I went to St Neots and worked as a journeyman basketmaker with Mr Thomas Wells in that place and in Bedford ever since. I have not done any act to gain a settlement. I was married on at Eynesbury, County of Huntingdon to Ann Kemp by whom I have four children namely William aged seven, Mary aged five, Susannah aged four and John aged 18 months.
