    I am 21 years of age, was born in St Peter, Bedford where my parents John Harpur and Sarah his wife then resided and belonged, my father having gained his settlement in that parish by serving his apprenticeship under one - Page . When I was about fourteen years of age I was bound apprentice by the Trustees of the Bedford Charity by Indentures (now produced) bearing date 30th December 1822 to Thomas Hootton of Raunds in the County of Northampton to learn the trade of shoemaker. When I had been there three years and a half my Master's work was slack aand by the mutual consent of my said Master and the said Trustees of the Bedford Charity my Indenture was assigned to Sarah Young of the parish of St Paul, Bedford who carried on the trade of shoemaker for the residue of the term of seven years.I continued in her service until the expiration of the same term. I was married on the 12 January instant at St Peters, Bedford to Ann Allen
