I am 36 years of age, was born in the hamlet of Branstone in the parish of Burton upon Trent in the County of Stafford where my father Thomas Coates then resided and belonged. In 1800 my father rented a house and land in the parish of Sutbury [Sudbury] in the County of Stafford of a Mr Jackson for one year which he occupied during that time and paid rent to the amount of twenty pounds and for which he paid all parochial and other taxes. I have never done any other act togain a settlement in my own right. I was married on Monday the nineteenth day of October at St Peter, bedford to Ann Butler Green.
