On Wednesday 2 September about 4pm he went with Mrs Barnett to Hannah Davis at the house where she lives in Canning Street. Mrs Barnett told Hannah they had been to search the house for the plants Hannah had taken from Mrs Read's and that she would have to suffer for it herself if Hannah did not tell who had taken the plants. Hannah said "it will not do you any good if you tell who taken them as they were found on your premises". He heard Hannah say she took the plant to Mrs Barnett to leave there until the next morning.
