  • Scope and Content
I am about 27 years of age, was born in the City of Lincoln. About 13 years ago I went the live with Mr Samuel Hurton of Louth, County of Lincoln, confectioner to do all kind of work. I continued there three years, my mistress sometimes giving me clothes and sometimes money but there was not any particular agreement as to time or wages. I then went home to my fathers for about 8 or 9 months and then let myself to Thomas Grantham of Immingham, Lincolnshire, as general servant. I continued in that service two years and a half at the wages of five pounds per annum and received the full of my wages. I then lived in several places but never long enough in any place to gain a settlement. Eleven weeks before old May Day 1819 I let myself to William Audiss who then lived at Ucelby in Lincolnshire but was going to remove to Renhold in County of Bedford until Old May Day 1820 as a general servant at the wages of seven guineas. My Master and family removed the next day to Renhold where I served him till several weeks after old May Day 1820 and received my full wages. I have not done any other act to gain a settlement since that time to my knowledge.
