Ebenezer Millard, farmer at West End, Stagsden - at various times lately he has lost goods - several sacks, a hay fork, a cropper from a saddle, some nailpassers, parts of hurdles, a barking iron, some halters, a cart rope etc. He has for some time suspected James Osborn of Stagsden. As a result of what he heard his wife say about what she had seen in Osborn's house he became more suspicious of him and procured a search warrant. On October 14 he went with the constable to search thehouse. He found part of a cart rope hanging in the garden as a close[sic] line and 2 spike bits on a shelf in the house. He also found a cart strap and a stirrup leather, 2 halters, several shackles, a "spud" [spade?] and other articles. There were several sacks used for bed ticks, and a sack belonging to Mr Sleath which he had had on his premises. Thomas Tillyard, police No.4 - he went with Mr Millard with a warrant to search James Osborn's house at Stagsden West End. There was no one at home. As they walked around the house they found a spud, Mr Millard's property. The wife and daughter then came home. They found the various other articles. He went towards Mr Labrys to apprehend Osborn and saw Osborn's daughter running towards Mr Labrys. He asked her where she was going - she said to her father. He took Osborn into custody at Mr Labrys.
