Depositions of Thomas Mitchell of Kempston and Thomas Bailey, Leather cutter of Hinkley (previously a police constable of Bedford. In the case of William Garrett accused of stealing a turkey.

Thomas Mitchell: resided in Kempston and in December 1849 he missed a turkey from his premises. The prisoner was working for him at the time. Thomas Bailey: on December he met the prisoner and his brother between Bromham and Mr Mitchell’s house, at about quarter past three in the morning. He noticed the brother to have something bulky in his smock. he asked to see what was concealed. The prisoner claimed it was an old hare. The brother went to the side of the road and Constable Bailey perceived he dropped the turkey from his smock. The prisoner absconded. Bailey apprehended the brother and was conveying him to Bedford , when he was rescued by his brother from Bailey's custody. Bailey collected the turkey from where it had been dropped and it was identified by Mitchell.
