    Mary Britain [Britten] wife of John Britain of Shefford - last Thursday evening she went out at the back door of her house leaving the front door shut. On going across the yard she heard the front door open and immediately returned. Michael Faggen stood on the threshhold unwrapping the handkerchief and bag now produced which are hers. He then dropped them and asked her to buy a halfpenny book. Henry Bailey, police constable stationed at Shefford - coming through Shefford about 6pm last Thursday he met Michael Faggen adn suspected he was begging. He told him it was not allowed and desired him to leave town. Faggen told him he wanted his boot mended and for that purpose he went up a yard. Faggen soon returned and appeared to be leaving the town. Soon after, on going to the house of William Britain he heard of the theft. From the description given to him he had no doubt it was Faggen so apprehended him. Michael Faggen - "I took up the handkerchief to look at it".
