    Mary Tennant: on 16 September, James Bates came and asked if she wanted her chimney swept. She told him to return early next day. She heard the chimney being swept the next day, but was not downstairs. She later looked for her knife to use in the garden and it was gone. Joseph Wilkes: on searching the prisoner he found the knife. Mary Tennant has identified it as hers.
