  • Scope and Content
About 11pm the previous night he was at the Black Horse Public House in Dunstable and was drinking a pint of beer in the screen. Jane Evans came and sat down by him. After about 10 minutes she left. As she got up he felt her hand in his breeches pocket and saw part of his purse hanging out. He missed 2 half crowns from his purse. He followed Jane Evans to the door and accused her of stealing his money. She denied it. He had taken out his purse to pay for his beer and put it back in his pocket with the 2 half crowns safe in it. When he charged Jane Evans with the robbery he followed her out into the street and had hold of her arm. He was set upon by a number of men who knocked him down several times and she got away. As soon as he recovered he went after her, found her in the street and gave her to the police constable John Tutte.
