- Scope and ContentHannah Thoroughgood, wife of William Thoroughgood of Luton, victualler - last Friday 8 May Herron came to her and brought the billet she now produces, signed by Booth the Constable for 2 men. Herron said he wanted room for 2 men and 2 horses that were coming directly. She said she had no stable room at all - he said she must "pay them out". He asked for 7 shillings which she gave him. He wrote on the paper "Corporal of the 46 that I have received from you the 7s on one billet" and signed it William Mitchell. No men came that night and none have come since. John Smith of Luton, retailer of beer - last Friday 8 May Herron brought him a billet signed by John Booth the Constable for 2 men and said there were 2 men and 2 horses. He said there were no horses in the billet - Herron said that did not signify. He asked for 7s, but said as there were no horses in the billet he would let him off with 18d. He paid Herron 18d and he gave him a receipt on the back of the billet.
