Congratulations to Miss E on birth of nephew. Old lady at Warden and Jack as usual. Lord Ongley infirm. Lady Ongley somewhat dropsical. Death of Mrs. Williamson. Mrs. Trevor very ill, “a mere skeleton”. Death of Boss at son’s house on journey to Leicester for cheese. Little Hardwick given to George Inskip by his niece, Miss Odey’s, bequest. Great Hardwick sold to Mr Partridge of Uxbridge who has an estate at Cranfield, for £22,100. Parish healthy – no funerals. Dry weather unfavourable to farming. Grass ruined and fruit trees injured. Wheat looks well. Repairs at Hatch nearly done. Francis goes to John Harvey next week to whitewash kennel and laundry. Mintel will not exceed estimate of £60. Thanks for kind enquiries after John Markham from North Riding friends. Respects to Mr and Mrs B and young ladies “tell Mrs B.that we nodded through Passion Week much as usual”. Heard children’s catechism in presence of Mr Japes and Mrs Foshel. Jack Woodward’s account of depredation of foxes, etc. Mr Inskip thinks Jack must have a licence. Young ladies go to Eaton on Monday. Fine display of tulips. Watson must take young ladies to see them – too far to walk. Sisters visit and ill-health. Mr McGrath called in and helped her. She has used New Walk “free from Frights and Fear of horned Cattle”. Mr Inskip says Northill timber not to be paid for till Michaelmas as by Malden’s Proposals. Peck ploughing and dunging Stonehills, ready to sow this week with turnips. Has been at coal cart three days: is now to get six of best oak trees from Wood for John Harvey’s use. Jack Woodward cleaning out New Ditch in Robinson’s Spinnies. Says corn never looked better. Has sent Law away as there is no work for him.Painting to be finished this week. Marling has been with Watson. His R[ickyar]d [?] made comfortable. Pal[- - -] sent another pair of red Knee breec hes for George so Joe has had his suit made up, and also his own. Two letters arrived and forwarded: one from Lord Ossory on His Majesty’s service. Madam will hear from young ones after tomorrow’s expedition. Sister sends regards.
