- Scope and ContentAbout 27 years of age. Born in St Cuthbert where my father then resided but belonged to Turvey. I believe my father obtained his settlement there by birth. My father had relief from the parish of Turvey for several years before he died, I have seen the Overseers pay him. He died about 3 years ago and the Overseers of Turvey paid 20 shillings towards his funeral. When I was about 16 I received from the parish officers of Turvey four shillingsa week for 16 weeks and after I got well they gave me eight shillings to set me up as a hawker and pedlar. About three years ago I received of the Overseers two shillings to buy medicine for a hurt I had received on my hand. I have been employed as a roundsman by that parish. It was about eight years ago. I have never done any act in my own right to obtain a settlement. I was married at Michaelmas 1822 at Blunham to Sarah Ashwell by whom I have no children.
