    About 52 years of age. Born in St Giles, Northampton where his father then resided but belonged to Hitchin, County of Hertford. His father removed from the parish of St Giles to Hitchin where he remained but a short time, when he took his family to Biggleswade and worked as a brazier with mr Richard Leach who then lived at Biggleswade. He continued working for Mr Leach for about seven years when Mr Leach removed to Bedford this Examinant's father came with him to work. This Examinant was taught his trade by his fatehr at Mr Leach's for whom and his successors Mr John Green and Messrs Sanders & Walton he has worked at his trade all his life except for about two years when he worked as such in London, Royston and some other places but has not done any act to gain a settlement in his own right. His father obtained a settlement at hitchin by apprenticeship. This Examinant's mother after his father's death received a weekley allowance from the Overseers of the Poor of Hitchin for a considerable time through the meium of the landlord of the Rose Inn, Bedford. His mother has been dead some years. He was married about 25 years ago at St Peter, Bedford to Edith Stock by whom he has six children, namely John Skerman aged 24, unmarried, William Skerman aged 22 (who is very ill and unable to be removed, having been taught the business of brazier by this Examinant but not done any act to gain a settlement in his own right); James aged 18, Thomas aged 17, Ann aged 7 and Joseph aged 4 years.
