- Scope and ContentHe is about 78 years of age. Born at Wootton Bassett, County of Wilts, where his father John Stagg then resided and belonged by having a freehold house and premised of his own there. When he was about 12 he let himself to WIlliam Yates of Wootton Bassett, baker and maltster as a general servant by the year and continued in such service 6 years. He left his place at Lady Day. The next Michaelmas he let himself to Thomas Baker of Wootton Bassett, farmer for a year and stayed there that year. Then he let hiself to Robert Munday of Broad Hinton, Wilts, farmer, for a year and continued there a year. He then let himself to William Short of Wootton Bassett, baker & maltster by the year and continued there 18 months. He then let himself to Thomas Short of Wootton Bassett, farmer as servant in husbandry and remained 9 years. Afterwards he worked by the day with several persons for nine or ten years. he then enlisted into the Wiltshire Militia and was with that Regiment eleven years and a half. About 32 years ago he was married at St Paul, Bedford, to Ann Nicholls but he has not any child living by her. He came to reside in bedford in May 1801 and has continued there ever since without doing any act to gain another settlement. Not signed.
