    About 50 years of age. Born in Rushden, County of Northampton. His father Robert Tilley, carpenter was removed with his family when this Examinant was about 5 years of age to the parish of St mary, Bedford. When he was about 16 he was placed out apprentice by the Parish Officers of St Mary to John Ames of Weston in the parish of Standon between Hitchin and Baldock in the County of Hertford, blacksmith for seven years but he does not recollect signing any Indenture. He lived with his Master for six weeks, went with his Master to Bedford. on their return home he stayed a fortnight longer with his Master at Weston and then ran away. His Master fetched him back from Pancras to Weston but he only stayed two or three days when he again ran away and never returned or heard anything of his Master. He continued in Bedford cleaning knives and such like business and jobbing about at many places till he was about 20 when he enlisted into the Stamford Volunteers where he continued a year and ahalf when he dted and was punished and discharged. He has been going about the country ever since doing what he couldbut has not done any other act to gain a settlement. He has never been married.
