- Scope and ContentWilliam Holmes of Toddington, labourer - last Tuesday evening he left about 4 bushels of potatoes on his allotment at Toddington, covered up with stubble. On Friday afternoon the potatoes were gone. He saw a foot mark on his land which he thought belonged to Edward Houghton. He suspected Edward Houghton and John Gobbey, who live in the same house, of stealing the potatoes. He went with James Powell the constable to their house that morning and found half a bushel of potatoes in a bag, which he is sure are part of the potatoes he lost - there are small pieces of stubble amongst them. They claimed to know nothing about them. Edward Houghton - knows nothing about it. John Gobbey - knows nothing about it and is only a lodger in the house.
