  • Scope and Content
    Thomas Thorogood: was in the Fox public house, run by John Ireland. Thomas Pestell, who was Ostler there, came in and told him he had 2 fowls, but to make haste and take them as Mr Ireland had come home. They were under the hovel. Thorogood sold them to Mr Joseph Lucas at the Eight Bells beer shop. Joseph Lucas: was in the Eight Bells in Church Street, and was offered and bought, 2 fowl from Thomas Thorogood. James Smith: heard that Joseph Lucas had brought fowl from Thomas Thorogood. Had had sold these on to Matthew Field, from whom Smith obtained feathers, and Mr Reeve, who gave Smith the head and feathers as evidence. John Ireland: Thomas Pestell had been in his employed for 8 days, and he lost 6 or 7 fowl in that time.
