Correspondence and papers regarding the assessment of sand pits in Leighton Buzzard and Heath and Reach. In Nov 1896 the Leighton Buzzard Assessment Committee appointed J.R. Eve & Son to undertake a new valuation of property in the Union, including the sand pits. The poor rate assessments were considered too high by many sand pit owners, who opposed the valuations in court. Includes the case at Quarter Sessions in Dec 1897 between the Leighton Sand Company, owned by Joseph Arnold and Leighton Buzzard Assessment Committee regarding the valuation of his sand pits in Heath and Reach and Leighton Buzzard. The pits include Arnold's Grove Pit, Stone Lane Hill Pit (Reach Green) and Shenley Hill Pit.
