- Scope and ContentJames Mitchell, labourer on Mrs Carr's farm - he went into Moorside field on Sunday morning and saw the footmarks - Mr Carr pointed one out to him. He followed the same mark onto the road. Vincent was there and he saw the mark of his shoe. Vincent agreed it was his "footling". He said "this looks like a square toed shoe" - Vincent replied "mine's a round toed shoe" and put his foot down and slipped it along. Richard Abbis, constable at Ampthill - on Sunday he went to Flitwick and took charge of the prisoner. He went with Vincent, Robert Carr and Mr Greene of Ampthill to Vincent's house. Vincent produced some shoes and a jacket as those he wore the night before. The jacket was wet in the right hand front as if it had been washed. There were blood marks on the right hand sleeve. Mr Carr picked a piece of something he said was wool off the corner of the jacket. He went with Carr and matched the shoes with some marks at the place the sheep were killed. While taking Vincent to Ampthill, the prisoner said "when I saw Robert Carr I knowed what he was coming for". Thomas Carr of Flitwick - he saw his brother go out fo the field on Sunday morning to go to Ampthill. He watched the footmarks from that time and the prisoner did not come near. Thomas Vincent - he went across the field the night before between 6 and 7pm. to his grandfather who lives at a cottage just over the moor to borrow something. He went to his club after that and stayed until nearly 12, then came back with two more young men and went to bed. He went across the field because it was "nighest" and he was afraid he would be too late for his club. He has been in the habit of going over that field two or three times in a day. He went straight across the field fromt he corner nearest his own house to his grandfather's and back the same way.
