  • Scope and Content
He keeps the Black Swan at Luton. Samuel Gatward came to his house last night about 7.15 and asked for a glass of gin but he refused as Gatward had already had plenty to drink. Gatward said if he would give him a glass of gin he would tell him something. He gave him a glass of gin and Gatward gave him half a crown - Gatward owed him 2 shillings and he gave him 4d change. He said they had broken into Craker's house and robbed "the old miser" of about £10. Gatward said it was not Craker's money, but money he had been collecting for old Sibley. Gatward pulled out a handful of silver and showed it to him. He said there would be "a hell of a row" about it in the morning. Tomlinson was to keep dark and Gatward would be in London. Gatward left the house and he told the policeman who was in the house at the time.
