- Scope and ContentWilliam Burton: was in the room at the back of his butcher's shop when he heard footsteps. He ignored them, but was then told someone had taken some mutton. The person was pointed out to him and William Rowlett stopped Thomas Clayton, and gave him over to his custody. The mutton was returned by a lad. William Rowlett: was opposite the shop when he saw Clayton, tip toe to the shop and open the door, whilst holding the bell. Once inside, he took some mutton. He told William Burton, and then pursued Clayton, who threw the meat at him whilst trying to get away.Statement of the accused: stated he took nothing
