Letter (two sheets) from Richard at Hinwick House to Frederica received letter this morning; went to (Sunday) school. describes his own room at the top of Hinwick House on the north side.

long sermon from Mr. Geldart’s brother ‘very dry’ discussions reference whether Maud should return to school: ‘feeding too High Church notions into her little brain’. showed his mother latest letter idealised view of their future marriage - beside the fire on a November evening not been in bed before 1 or 2 in the morning all last week ‘My father likes me to be out with him a good deal in the day, so I have to make up at night. He has been poorly and much upset about his brother, and he hardly looks at the accounts now, so I must do them all. It is not merely the putting down and adding up, but there is the separating and analysing, and capitalising the same accounts in different ways for different purposes’ seen Frederica ’s brother at Wellingborough en route for Peterborough able to give better news of Uncle Cuthbert – the crisis is past Mrs Trevenan Penrose, aunt of Richard’s Uncle suddenly died of diphtheria “thinks lackadaizal Newbolt called . . . . I have quite a horror of him and he calls constantly”.
