  • Scope and Content
I am about 46 years of age. Born in Linford, County of Buckingham where my father then resided and belonged having obtained his settlement by a service of thirty six years. When I was 14 years old I was placed out apprentice by Indenture dated 3 march 1802 for seven years to Charles Gilling of Stony Stratford, County of Bucks, carpenter. When being ill used by my Master & Mistress I applied to a Magistrate who sent for my Master and on hearing us advised me to go home and recommended my master to use me better. But he did not and one morning he sent for me and told me to pack up my clothes. He gave me up my Indentures and bade me go away about my business. I did so and have worked as a journeyman carpenter ever since without ever having sent my Master any part of my earnings. i was married at St Paul, Bedford 1 Jan 1805 to Ann Bushby by whom I have three children namely Eleanor aged eighteen years (subject to fits), John aged firteen years and Mary aged nine years, none of them having gained settlement in their own right. About 15 years ago I was taken ill at Newport Pagnell, I applied for relief to the parish officers of Linford who gave me a trifle but objected to continue it. I was then examined before the Justices at Newport pagnell and then removed by order to Stony Stratford who relieved me and my family for near six months. About 8 years ago I was again taken ill and applyling to the parish officers of Stony Stratford for further relief they relieved me for about three months through the hands of Thomas Green, grocer of Bedford.
