    William Pangbourn, police constable: went to Luton to apprehend Elizabeth Bunnage on charges of stealing some ribbon and other articles in the possession of her father, from her master Jonathan Burrell. She denied knowledge of her father taking anything. He took her to Luton and left her in the charge of Ellen Keating, wife of the constable John. He then moved Bunnage to Hitchin. Ellen Keating: her husband runs the police station in Luton. Bunnage was bought there by Pangbourn. Bunnage ask to go to the privy. Ellen Keating waited outside. On leaving Ellen Keating found a bundle down the privy which she removed with tongs. The bundle contain the items that had been removed. On his return these were handed to John Keating. That evening Eliza Burrell came to the house and was shown the items. John Keating: took possession of the items given to him by his wife. Burrell was told he had these items and Eliza Burrell viewed them in the absence of John Keating. Lucy Cassidy: occasionally works for Mrs Burrell. The previous morning Elizabeth Bunnage had come to her with a pack of calico requesting it be marked into a shift. It was not opened until after Elizabeth Bunnage was at the police station. On opening it, Cassidy found 2 caps and narrow ribbon, which she handed in to John Keating. Eliza Burrell: confirmed the property found by Mrs Keating and Lucy Cassidy to belong to her husband. George Cocksedge: keeper of the police station at Hitchin were Elizabeth Bunnage was taken. Bunnage wished to tell him what happened. He noted this down. She admits to stealing the items. Statement of the accused - Elizabeth Bunnage: said that Mrs Swainston asked her several time to get her some caps and ribbons, and that she would give her sixpence.
