James Browne: was gamekeeper for Crewe Alston. Mr Alston had permission to fish the River Ouse in the Odell and Felmersham parishes. James Browne had laid nets. On checking them he found 3 fish, which he left in the nets and replaced the nets in the water. He continued to watch the nets from a distance. He saw a man approach the nets and remove the fish. William Parris was close by on the footpath and the fish appeared to be passed to him. Browne challenged Parris, who said he did not have the fish. Browne could see a fishes tail in the the pocket of Paris. Thomas Kennedy: was with James Browne throughout William Parris: claimed that Browne could not swear the other man gave him fish and that he did not receive the fish. He stated he was innocent and declined to sign the statement.
