- Scope and ContentPeter Mantua: lived with his uncle, Joseph Mantua, a jeweller. Joseph had Bull Terriers he let out every night. On this night Peter heard the dogs in the yard of Shoulder of Mutton public house, next door to his uncle's yard. He found the dog tied to a horse in that yard, with the collar gone. He enquired in the public house and was advised the man had gone for the collar by William Farmer. The collar had the owners name engraved on it. William Farmer: Peter Mantua approached him at the public house and accused James Blowes of stealing the collar. Blowes originally denied it but then said he would go and fetch the collar, which he did. John Keating, police constable: arrived as Farmer and Mantua were being told by Blowes that he would fetch the collar. Blowes said he found it. The collar was broken and a piece of the collar found in the pocket of Blowes.
