- Scope and ContentJohn Norman, constable of Blunham - on Monday 23 September he was sent for at about 10pm by Mrs Elliiot who keeps the Old Horse Shoes Inn at Blunham to remove James Dunton, a notorious drunkard. He tried to persuade Dunton to go home quietly. He was "excessively drunk and riotous". Some others helped him to get Dunton out, but he resisted and laid violent hands on one of them - he thinks James Thomason. When he went to release him Dunton gave him a violent kick on the shin, causing a deep cut and leaving him lame for several days. James Thomason of Blunham - was at the Old Horse Shoes Inn when Mrs Elliot sent for the constable to take Dunton away. Her son Thomas Elliot asked him to help remove him. Dunton seized him by the shirt and held him until the constable loosed his hold with his staff. Dunton then kicked the constable with an iron tipped shoe. James Dunton - declined to say anything and refused to find sureties. Had recently offended in the same way and it had been excused.
