- Date free text1 August 1839
- Production dateFrom: 1839 To: 1839
- Scope and ContentShe took 18 score of plait that Mr Vyse bought from her mother to the Turf Hotel. He paid her for 17 1/2 score at 1s 10d. On Monday he asked if she had made a mistake in any plait - she said she did not take enough by 1/2 score. On the Saturday she asked Mr Vyse for £1 13s but he paid her only £1 12s 1d. Mr Cherry the linen draper at St Albans calculated the amount for her. They generally make up their plait in pieces of 10 yards. In the plait sold to Mr Vyse one of the tens was in 2 pieces. She borrowed about 2 1/4 yards from her sister to make up the 10 yards. The plait produced has one of the 10 yards in 2 pieces in these amounts. She, her mother and another woman could only count 17 1/2 score of it. Her sister showed her the two pieces before the bundle was tied up. The next morning she saw the 4 ends of the 2 pieces. She was with her mother all the time from then until they went to market - she dare not trust her mother by herself.
