  • Scope and Content
About 22 years of age. Born in Ravensden where his father John Wiles lived and belonged. About two months before Michaelmas 1818 he let himself to William Hart of Radwell, farmer as a general servant in husbandry by the week at 3 shillings a week until the Michaelmas then following when his Master said he would hire him by the year. Michaelmas Bedford Fair Day morning he let himself again to Mr Hart for six pounds and his washing. He continued there until a week after Old Michaelmas 1819 when his Master sent for him whilst he was threshing in the barn and told him he should not stay any longer , that there was his wages all but three shillings which he stopped for the week. As he didn’t much like the place he took his wages and his Master ordering him some victuals he ate it and came away. Married Tuesday 3 February at St Cuthberts, Bedford to Elizabeth Smith.
